Overview:
This is an intensive training course for those wishing to get a speedy start into the beauty industry. The skills included are highly commercial and taught to a professional diploma level providing you with excellent employment opportunities. The disciplines covered are:
FACIALS A comprehensive study in skin care. Practical skills include: skin analysis, cleansing, balancing, toning, moisturising, steaming, extraction, a full facial massage routine, selecting, mixing and applying tailor-made face masques. The theory involves the anatomy & physiology of the upper torso, including the muscles, bones, blood and nerve supply and an in-depth study of the skin.
WAXING AND TANNING You will learn how to remove hair using three different methods: hot bees wax, cream wax and warm organic wax, as well as with chemical depilatory products. You will also learn how to lighten hair using a safe bleaching process. All areas of the face and body will be worked on. The theory includes the hair growth cycle. During this module you will also learn cosmetic tanning.
COSMETIC MAKE-UP This module will give you training in professional make-up application up to bridal and 'special occasion' level. Training in eyelash and eyebrow tinting, eyebrow shaping, the application of individual and strip false eyelashes will complete your make-up skills.
MANICURE AND PEDICURE Learn all the maintenance and care techniques for the nails and skin of the hands and feet. You'll learn how to apply single and multi-layer varnishing as well as American and French manicure and pedicure techniques. The practical training also includes paraffin wax treatments. The theory includes an in-depth study of the structure of the nail as well as the antomy and physiology of the rest of the lower leg and forearms.
You will also learn the contra-indications to all treatments, client counselling / consultation techniques, product sales, salon reception skills and management duties. There is no 'final exam' for this course. Instead, you will be assessed for both practical skills and theory knowledge throughout each module.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: • The minimum age for entry to this course is 18 years - no exceptions. There is no upper age limit. • No previous experience required, although a good general education is essential for this demanding course • An excellent level of English is required. You must be able to speak, read, write and understand English fluently. You may be asked to sit an entry test.

The London School of Beauty and Make-up offers industry-recognised qualifications. Some schools only offer their own 'in-house' diplomas. These are not industry-recognised, and would not be sufficient to work in the industry, even if you wish to work from your own home on a private basis.
