A good base 'is key to red carpet makeup'
A good base 'is key to red carpet makeup' Healthy, moisturised skin is the key to establishing a red carpet look, according to one expert.

Celebrity makeup artist Kayleen McAdams revealed in an interview with Us Weekly how she styled actress Sofia Vergara for the 2011 Emmy Awards.

"The trick to making her makeup last all night is to set the look properly from the beginning," she remarked.

The beauty specialist claimed that it is important to start with concealer and follow this with foundation, before applying powder in order to "set the entire look".

Ms McAdams described how Vergara likes to appear "very feminine and sexy" and, as a result, she always ensures the star has a strong eyebrow and lots of detail is focused on her eyelashes.

Once the key features have been covered, the expert will highlight either the eyes or lips with dark eye shadows or a colourful pout.

Vergara is known for her roles in Modern Family and Dirty, Sexy Money.
