Those on beauty therapy courses have been told what women want: anti-ageing treatments.
Research by Mintel discovered that despite economic uncertainties the facial skincare market is booming in the big five European countries – the UK, Spain, Germany, France and Italy – where at the end of last year this sector had a market value of €6.2 billion (£5.5 billion). This is compared to 2009's figure of €6 billion.
"Anti-ageing is a key sector for the beauty industry, and the segment is set to grow over the next decade, with an ageing population supporting sales. The anti-ageing skincare market is well placed to withstand the economic pressures of the coming years," Vivienne Rudd, senior European beauty analyst at Mintel, said.
The company also found that people in these five countries are most concerned about wrinkles and fine lines, with 44 per cent of Britons, 46 per cent of Italian consumers and 48 per cent of French shoppers naming this as a worry.
In addition, beauty therapy students may wish to try a new anti-ageing cream by L'Oreal on older clients. The company's LiftActive Derm Source plumps up the skin and smoothes out wrinkles.
