The beauty world has been awash with colour recently, from fluorescent shades to metallics and even the return of the blue eyeshadow, as makeup school students will no doubt be aware.
Now the latest theme is pastels, and according to one celebrity makeup artist, this is the one to team with your sun-kissed clients or to work with on your own creations.
Ariane Poole, who has worked with the likes of Penelope Cruz, Catherine Zeta Jones, Uma Thurman and Yasmin Le Bon, explained that though these are not the usual colours to mix with a tan, all the designers are proving that they really do work.
"The kind of pastels that you should look for ... are sheer pastels not the opaque pastels. Because what happens with pastels is that they sit on a tan and they can make it look a bit ashy," she told makeup school students.
Vogue is leading the call on pastel colours, citing baby blue, pastel pink, pale yellow, spearmint and softest lilac as the hottest shades.
