Those hoping to work in a beauty salon need to know that primer should be applied after moisturiser.
Explaining the purpose of primers in the Daily Mail, make-up artists Laura Mercier, Jackie Tyson and Gucci Westman said that the primer seals in moisturiser and provides a smooth surface for any foundation being applied.
According to Ms Westman, pore minimiser can replace primer on those needing to treat and highlight their skin tone, but should also be used before any foundation is applied.
"A primer provides a base for your foundation, which will ensure it will stay put longer, but will also help give the illusion of flawless, radiant skin," Ms Tyson added.
Martha Worboy, beauty expert for Canwest News Service, recently said that students on professional makeup courses should know that skin must be in good condition before applying cosmetics.
Even celebrities such as Renee Zellweger and Cameron Diaz suffer from skin complaints, but using cleansers, toners and moisturisers can help lay the foundation for a good makeup look, she said.
