Makeup artists may want to try using heavier moisturisers and cleansers in winter to help achieve a flawless finish, as the skin will be more prone to dryness.
This is according to corporate trainer at the International Dermal Institute Victoria Evans, who explained how changes in temperature can lead to "sore, irritated or flaky" skin.
She described how cold weather and brisk winds can make the face red and irritated, while central heating can be dehydrating.
"Look for slightly waxier products that we would describe as a salve or a protectant, to help the skin shield from the elements," Ms Evans advised.
It was suggested such cosmetics should be used on lips and cheeks, with those who are exposed to cold weather during commutes likely to find this particularly beneficial.
Louise Thomas-Minns, a skin and beauty therapist and founder of Uandyourskin.co.uk, recently claimed brightening products are a good investment in winter as they even out and boost skin tones.
