Individuals considering undertaking beauty training courses may be pleased to hear the makeup industry appears to be thriving despite the economic downturn.
Research conducted by Debenhams has revealed sales of cosmetics have increased across the UK with more women than ever purchasing "lotions and potions".
Spokeswoman for the company Ruth Attridge said: "Our lipstick sales are up 19 per cent, mascara sales up 21 per cent and nail varnish up 21 per cent when compared with last year."
While it seems makeup is an area where women are not prepared to compromise, the research revealed a divide between the most popular products purchased by ladies in the north and south of the UK.
Those living in London are more likely to splash out on concealer, moisturiser, lip gloss, powder and mascara, compared with the trend for fake tan and bronzer that is seen in the north.
Reality TV shows Geordie Shore, Made in Chelsea and The Only Way is Essex may go some way in influencing the makeup styles of individuals living in certain regions of the UK.
