Women considering heading abroad for beauty treatments have been warned of the possible dangers they could be opening themselves to.
Rajiv Grover, a consultant plastic surgeon and secretary to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, has explained that whilst the offer of cheap beauty treatments might be tempting for some, they are not always a success story.
"If you are going abroad for surgery, the reason why the costs are less is because overheads, charges – everything is less, but you can't actually look at the quality of the facility you are going to be treated in," he said.
Mr Grover added that while treatments may be more expensive in the UK, there is the comfort of the knowledge that every hospital is governed by the Care Quality Commission set up by the government, the standards of which are very stringent.
The expert's comments follow recent news of a superbug which is resistant to antibiotics and has been discovered in patients in Britain, many of who had returned from Asia after having cosmetic surgery.
