Nail art trend to put beauty salons in demand? Beauty salons could be in demand this coming season as nail art emerges as a top trend on the catwalk and the high street.

Caroline Manley, regional manager for Nails Inc, told Metro that the recession was partly responsible for this fashion, as styling talons is "an affordable luxury".

"There's a current obsession with statement nails, which means they're an accessory in their own right," nail art blogger Sophy Robson told the newspaper.

Celebrities like Beyonce and Lady Gaga have also helped to forward this trend, sporting intricate designs on their nails put on using a method called Minx, which involves applying thin, film-like adhesives.

Nails Inc is one of the beauty salons tapping into the latest fashion craze, offering a crystal pedicure which involves having 500 Swarovski crystals individually applied to toenails.

Celebrity manicurist Kimmie Kees, who has tended to the talons of Lady Gaga and Britney Spears, recently told Access Hollywood that neon nails would be a top trend for this season.
