The 80s remain an inspiration for fashion at the moment, and aspiring beauty salon owners should make sure they're tapped in to the neon nail trend.
A host of celebs have been making a statement with bold nail shades of late, with Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Kate Perry and Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas all rocking the fluorescent look.
Celebrity manicurist Kimmie Kees, who has tended to the talons of Lady Gaga and Britney Spears, told Access Hollywood that neon shades are popular because they add "extra flare" to any outfit.
"The best way to wear most neon colors is to apply one coat of a solid white polish," she explained to the news provider, so aspiring beauty salon owners should take note.
"This creates a base for the neon that allows the colour to almost glow on the nails once it is applied," Ms Kees said.
Neon shades usually have a matte finish, so one way to extend the life of a manicure is to add a shiny coat on top to rejuvenate the original colour, she added.
Another trend to watch out for is purple nails, which Kristin Perrotta, editorial projects director at Allure magazine, has told Canadian Press will be big for summer.
