Those in skincare workshops will be well aware of how badly tanning can go wrong if applied incorrectly or if too much is lathered on - but help is at hand - in the form of the Tan Tone Colour Chart.
Designed by Debenhams to help women and skincare workshop students alike, the chart resembles a paint colour guide and will help decipher where you or your subject falls on the tanning scale - to ensure mishaps like Cheryl Cole's and Lindsay Lohan's do not happen again.
Sara Stern, director of beauty at Debenhams, said the bronzed look is a key trend for this summer, but research has found that 70 per cent of fake tanners get it wrong - either applying too much or topping up too often.
"This one-of-a-kind chart is the first on the high street and is available in our beauty halls nationwide to encourage a healthy glow, whilst avoiding the dreaded orange," she explained.
Orange was recently tipped by the Daily Venus Diva as the 'in' shade for summer - but this one is strictly for the eyes.
