Using liquid foundation and avoiding applying too much moisturiser are two of the best ways to keep skin looking young.
This was the advice given by makeup artist for Dior Jamie Coombes in an interview with the Daily Record.
He explained how many women make themselves appear older by using ageing techniques when applying cosmetics.
Firstly, Mr Coombes recommended not overloading the skin with moisturiser - as this will cause makeup to slip - and then applying a liquid foundation followed by a sparing sweep of powder.
"Over-bronzing the face can make it look flat. Catch the high points of the face then apply a warm pink blush on the apple of the cheek," the expert remarked.
Using too many matte products can lead to the skin appearing overwhelmed with cosmetics, Mr Coombes warned.
Recent research by scientists at Adonia Organics revealed women can look up to five years older in the winter months due to dark circles around the eyes.
