Ladies have been advised to ensure they visit trained professionals who have been on laser hair removal courses when considering such treatment.
In an interview with the Boston Globe, dermatologist Dr Jeffrey Dover described how people put their health at risk if they go to unlicensed individuals.
The expert recommended checking a company and their staff's training background before having "any procedure that involves lasers or chemical peels to remove skin, acne or moles".
He commented how those who practice laser hair removal and other such treatments without having undertaken adequate courses could leave people with scars and burns.
Editor of Professional Beauty Eve Oxberry recently expressed similar sentiments to Dr Dover, when she advised ladies to attend a no-obligation consultation to discuss a procedure before agreeing to an appointment.
Ms Oxberry explained how it is important people feel confident in the ability of the practitioner and enquire as to their training.
