Fashion and media makeup students have been told that the latest trend for them to try their hands at is the deep purple look.
According to the Independent, which spoke to a number of beauty gurus, while the summer season boasted light and vibrant shades of blue, the autumn months are seeing a darker take on this trend in the form of deep purple.
However, this shade is not to be applied to the eyes – it is actually meant to be applied to the lips, to follow the more experimental catwalk style.
Paul Herrington, lead make-up artist for Bobbi Brown, explained to the news provider that berry lips can look great, but it's all about teaming them with a relatively bare face.
"A natural base teamed with a dark, sultry lip colour is very on-trend this season," he said.
"For maximum effect, the eyes need to be defined and yet not heavily made up. Eyeliner and two coats of mascara should be enough."
According to Ariane Poole, celebrity makeup artist and Pearle Drops spokesperson, brown lips are an alternative to purple if you're looking for something more sedate.
